Far too often, beautiful furniture is not comfortable....and comfortable furniture is not beautiful. Our story is different. From the beginning, Jessica Charles has been crafting furniture that feels as good as it looks.

Founded in 1975 by Bill Disque, along with partners Kermit Pierce and Joe Slade, our original company perfected the swivel rocker - earning a reputation for beautifully comfortable accent chairs. Over the years, the company expanded into swivels, gliders, dining chairs, benches, ottomans and settees. Designers came to trust us as a favorite for accent upholstery that could deliver style and comfort.

The 1990s brought more growth. We were purchased by new owners from Hancock & Moore and renamed Jessica Charles. Founding partner Kermit Pierce stayed with the company, leading manufactuering until his death in 2018. We honor his legacy today by crafting furniture "the Kermit way," making sure every piece would meet his flawless standards.

In 2015, as our owners neared retirement, they sold the company to Rock House Farm Family of Brands, and Jessica Charles became a sister company to Century and Highland House. Today, under the leadership of Alex Shuford III, we carry on the commitment to design and craft that has guided our furniture makers from the beginning.

Hand-tailored in America

Our North Carolina craftsmen hand-make every piece in our High Point studio, utilizing time-tested, artisan construction techniques, from eight-way hand tied coils to hand-cut-and-sewn patterns. Our cushions are custom fitted and our skirts are precisely cut, lined and mitered for a perfect drape every time.

From woodworkers and carvers to upholsters and patter-makers, our craftsmen are some of the most respected in the industry. Many of our artisans learned their craft from their fathers and grandfathers, bringing generations of exellence and experience to every step of production. We believe furniture tells a story, and that story begins with the details.
